Palm leaf manuscript of Gita Govinda

Krishna, also called the Dark Lord due to the bluish black tint of his skin, is well known by Hindus for his flute playing. So, in all the classical Indian dance forms Krishna is frequently portrayed with his flute. Here the crown of peacock feathers is also discernible atop his head in addition to loose peacock feathers about his hair.
